His wife Janet reached for Peters wallet, it was in his coat which hung on a coat hook in the hallway. She passed it to Peter with trembling hands, and he took out his debit card and handed it to Green. Peter found his voice,
“there’s only £350 in it, we’ve just paid the mortgage and the Council Tax.”

“OK” said Green, “I’ll tell what I’ll do for you. I’ll just take £300 for now. You sign this, and that'll give you time to come up with the other £290”

Peter and Janet nodded and felt slightly relieved they could buy food.
They didn’t object as Green pushed past them and walked through their house, going upstairs to the bedrooms making notes as he went.

When he came back to the hallway he asked for a signature.
Peter signed the form without a word. Green gave him a copy, and said cheerfully “see you next Thursday”, walked to his van, and drove away.

The Stucker family were left in shock, the children traumatised, the parents feeling violated, humiliated, and powerless.

Peter didn't keep his CAB appointment because Greens performance had convinced him there was nothing he could do. Nobody smiled in the Stucker house, because they now lived with the constant fear of Greens next visit.

Peter prayed for extra work.
It didn’t come.    He hoped that Green wouldn’t call......but he did
