A bailiff gets control 5

The following Thursday, at 6.50am Green knocked at the door.

Peter didn’t have enough money.

Last week’s visit had left them with £50 to live on, and work had been slow, he had £150 in the bank and Green wanted £289.60, and if he paid him now they would have no food, the electricity and gas bill wouldn’t be paid, and neither would the mortgage or the Council Tax instalment for this month.
Peter tried to explain this, but Green wasn’t interested.

Green took a deep breath. “OK, what you signed is a Walking Possession Agreement - that gives me the right to come into your house at any time of the day or night, and if you don’t open the door I can bring a locksmith and the police to open it for me."
"I can search the house and break open any locked doors or cupboards."
"I can take your van, and I will do that if you haven’t got the money for me by 3pm tomorrow afternoon, if you do not pay me by 3pm tomorrow afternoon I will take your van and I will sell it at auction."
"DO. YOU. UNDERSTAND.?"Peter barely nodded
"You now owe me £147 for seizing your van. See you tomorrow.”


Peter watched him walk away and felt as if his world had come to an end.
Each time Green came the debt got bigger, and now Green said he owed £436.60.  He felt depressed and lonely.....
