Sisters beat the bailiff

He seemed such a kindly old man that, once Angela had got over the shock, she couldn’t see any reason to say no.
In fact, although he called her Mrs Grey throughout his visit, Len had a relaxed way about him that put her at ease.
So she invited him into the kitchen, made them both a cup of tea, and they sat down and worked out how much she could afford to pay; he was very concerned that the new payment arrangement should be easily sustainable, he even made the bailiff charges sound reasonable.
They were £24.50 for the 1st £100 of debt, £15.12 or 4% of the next £400 of debt and a visit fee of £24.50 which brought the bill to £542.10.  Len waive'd the enforcement fee because she’d made him a lovely cup of tea.
They agreed Angela would pay one instalment now and the rest within the financial year in 9 instalments of £54.21 paid on the 28th day of each month. She felt confident that the matter was now resolved.

Once they’d finished, he made a note of the kitchen table, microwave, portable tv, and the toaster, items that he could see from where he was sitting, “just a formality really”, Len said, “I don’t want them”.
He listed the kitchen table, the microwave, a portable tv, and the toaster, Mrs Grey laughed when he described what he’d have to go through to take possession of them and take them to the Auction Room, and what a drafty miserable place it was, and how he’d rather do anything but go through that, and they both laughed when he reckoned he’d get about £15 for the lot so it wouldn’t be worth all that trouble anyway…
